# How do I block a channel on YouTube? — SubSense Last reviewed: September 29, 2026. HTML version: https://www.subsenseapp.com/answers/block-a-channel-on-youtube/ **On an ordinary adult account there is no one button that makes a channel disappear from YouTube.** What YouTube's help documents is three separate controls, and each stops something different: one tunes what you are recommended, one stops a person's messages reaching you, and one — for parents only — hides a channel from a child. Even the page titled *Block channels on YouTube* is about chat, comments and mentions rather than videos (*YouTube Help: Block channels on YouTube*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7663906?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid). So start by naming what is actually bothering you. ## If it keeps turning up in your recommendations This is the control most people are looking for. YouTube's steps: on pages “such as your Home and Watch Next pages, find a video, Short, or post from a channel that you don’t want recommended to you”, open **More** beside its title, and “Select Don't recommend channel or Don't recommend posts from channel” (*YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6342839?hl=en). Two details on that page change how you should think about it. It is feedback rather than a wall — YouTube says this feedback “may be used to tune your recommendations”, which is a softer promise than *never*. And it can be taken back: in My Activity, under **Other Google activity**, “Select YouTube 'Not interested' feedback, then select Delete.” The page does not say whether the channel also vanishes from search results. Treat it as exactly what its name says: a recommendation control. ## If it's a person in the comments or live chat There is a **Block**, but it acts on messages. YouTube: “You can block someone’s channel if you no longer want to see their messages on live chat, in comments, or receive their mentions.” It cuts both ways — “The channel you blocked will no longer see your messages on live chat, in comments, or receive your mentions” (*YouTube Help: Block channels on YouTube*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7663906?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid). In live chat you tap the viewer's message and choose **Block**; in the app you can also start from a mention notification, via **More** and then **Block this user**. The block does not stay on YouTube: “When you block someone on YouTube, that person's account is blocked in other Google products.” Undoing it happens in your Google Account, at myaccount.google.com/blocklist. Nothing on that page says a blocked channel's videos stop appearing in your feed or in search. If the videos are the problem, this is the wrong tool. ## If you are subscribed to it None of the above takes a channel you follow out of your Subscriptions feed. YouTube is plain about why: “Once you subscribe to a channel, any new videos it publishes will show up in your Subscriptions feed” (*YouTube Help: Subscribe to YouTube channels*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/4489286?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid). The documented way out is to open one of its videos and, under the player, tap **Subscribed** and then **Unsubscribe**. Signed in with the linked parent account, open the channel page and choose **Block channel for kids** — under **More** in the app, or from the About tab via **Report user** on a computer — then tap **BLOCK** next to the child. YouTube: “When you block a channel for your child’s YouTube Kids profile using your linked parent account, you won't find it in YouTube Kids” (*YouTube for Families Help: Block & share content on YouTube Kids*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtubekids/answer/7178746?hl=en). The supervised-account page says the same parent account can “block specific channels you don’t want your child to watch” (*YouTube Help: Parental controls & settings for supervised kid accounts*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/13877231?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid). YouTube states the limits itself. “Blocking a channel only blocks content uploaded to that specific channel. It doesn’t block videos that are reuploaded on other channels, or similar channels with related content.” And on YouTube Kids: “If you sign out of YouTube Kids, any content you’ve blocked while signed in will be available when you sign out.” ## Which one to reach for *Our suggestion, not YouTube's:* match the tool to the annoyance. - **It keeps being recommended:** Don't recommend channel, from any of its videos, Shorts or posts. - **A person is bothering you:** Block, from their message or mention. - **You follow it and wish you didn't:** unsubscribe — the only one of these that takes it out of your Subscriptions feed. - **A child keeps finding it:** Block channel for kids, from the parent account.
