# Can you turn off Shorts on YouTube? — SubSense

**Not completely, on your own account.** YouTube's help documents a way to see *fewer* Shorts on Home and a daily time limit for the Shorts feed that can be set to zero — but on an adult account that limit is a reminder you can dismiss, and none of the pages we read describes a switch that removes Shorts from the app (*YouTube Help: Set a Shorts feed limit*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16671528?hl=en). The only hard stop YouTube documents is one a parent sets on a supervised account.

## Show fewer Shorts on Home

This works on the grids of Shorts that appear in your Home feed. YouTube's steps: “On the YouTube app, go to your Home feed.” “Scroll to a grid of Shorts.” “At the top of the grid, tap More.” “Tap Show fewer Shorts.” (*YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6342839?hl=en)

Notice the word YouTube chose: fewer. The page frames it as “You can choose to see fewer of these,” not as removing them. It is also reversible — in My Activity, under **Other activity**, find “Show fewer Shorts” and select **Delete** — which is worth knowing if you ever want them back.

## Set the Shorts feed limit to zero

The stronger lever is under **Time management**. In the YouTube app: the **You** tab, then **Settings**, then **Time management**, then **Shorts feed limit**. YouTube says “You will be prompted with a list of time limits, including the option to set your Shorts feed limit to zero” (*YouTube Help: Set a Shorts feed limit*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16671528?hl=en).

Read the next sentence before relying on it: “When your set time limit is reached in the Shorts feed, a message will appear reminding you. You will be prompted with an option to dismiss or ignore your set limit.” On your own account, then, zero is a speed bump rather than a lock. *Our view:* that still helps if the problem is drifting into the Shorts feed without noticing, because it turns an automatic scroll into a decision. The page describes the setting only in the YouTube app.

## On a supervised teen account, it is a real stop

Parents get the version with teeth. From Family Center, select the child's account, choose **Time management**, and set the daily Shorts feed limit. YouTube: “When your teen reaches their daily limit, a message will appear letting them know and will prevent them from scrolling the Shorts feed for the remainder of the day. This limit automatically resets every morning. The contrast with the adult setting is the whole point: *prevent them from scrolling* on the supervised account, *dismiss or ignore* on your own.

## When it's one channel's Shorts

If most of the Shorts you'd rather not see come from one or two channels, the channel-level control reaches Shorts too. YouTube's recommendation help says to find “a video, Short, or post from a channel that you don’t want recommended to you” and choose **Don't recommend channel** from its **More** menu (*YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6342839?hl=en). If it's a channel you subscribe to, the subscription itself is worth a look. YouTube says a subscribed channel's new videos “will show up in your Subscriptions feed” (*YouTube Help: Subscribe to YouTube channels*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/4489286?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid); that page speaks of videos and does not say how Shorts are treated there. ## What we could not find

We looked specifically for an adult-account setting that hides the Shorts tab or turns Shorts off entirely. The recommendations page, the Shorts feed limit page and the supervised-account page cited above describe none (*YouTube Help: Set a Shorts feed limit*, read 28 September 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/16671528?hl=en). Third-party browser extensions are outside what this page covers; we haven't reviewed any.

*Our suggestion,* in order: show fewer Shorts on Home, set a feed limit you'll actually notice, don't-recommend the channels that dominate, and prune the subscriptions that feed the rest.
