# What is the Community tab on YouTube? — SubSense

Last reviewed: October 8, 2026. HTML version: https://www.subsenseapp.com/answers/the-community-tab-on-youtube/

**It depends which one you mean, because YouTube's help now uses two names for what people still call “Community”.** The polls, text and image updates a creator publishes are described as **posts**, found on a channel's **Posts** tab (*YouTube Help: Learn about posts*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9409631?hl=en). The word “Community” is used for something newer: a discussion space on a channel where subscribers can post too (*YouTube Help: Start your Community*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/15739414?hl=en). Neither page says when the naming changed. The video embedded on the posts page is still titled “YouTube Community Posts”, which is a fair hint that both names describe the same updates.

## Posts: what creators publish

YouTube's list of formats is broad: creators “can create posts to connect and interact with your viewers through polls, quizzes, GIFs, text, music, images, and video” (*YouTube Help: Learn about posts*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/9409631?hl=en). An image post can carry up to 10 pictures, and a poll up to four answers (*YouTube Help: Create a post*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7124474?hl=en).

Where they show up is the part most viewers notice. The posts page says: “Your audience can find your posts on your channel page either on the Posts shelf in the Home tab or in the Posts tab. Posts may also show up on their homepage and Subscriptions feed, and image posts may additionally show on the Shorts feed.” Following a channel can also bring a notification when it posts.

Posts are not everywhere. The same page says they are unavailable on a supervised account or a channel set as made for kids, and that “Posts are not currently available in Germany.”

## Community: a space subscribers can post in

The newer feature is a channel's own discussion board. YouTube: “Communities are a dedicated space for you and your audience to connect with each other right from your channel,” where “your subscribers can start discussions about your videos, share pictures, and other activities” (*YouTube Help: Start your Community*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/15739414?hl=en). The creator decides whether to switch it on, and the setup steps on that page refer to it as “your Community tab”.

Three details from the same page:

- What is written there stays there: posts made from a Community “will not show on the Posts tab for viewers.”
- It can still reach you elsewhere, since “Community-only posts may be recommended to viewers on their homepage, Subscriptions, and Watch Next feed.”
- Joining in takes time as a subscriber: “Viewers must be subscribed to your channel for a minimum amount of time before they can post.”

## Why posts appear between the videos in your feed

Both pages above say posts can land in the Subscriptions feed, so the feed is not videos-only. *Our reading:* a channel that posts often adds those posts to the stream as well as its uploads, which is one more way a few channels can [take over a feed](https://www.subsenseapp.com/answers/why-one-channel-floods-my-youtube-feed/). If videos you expected are missing instead, [that checklist](https://www.subsenseapp.com/answers/youtube-feed-not-showing-videos/) starts with the Home and Subscriptions difference.

## Seeing fewer posts

The control YouTube documents is on its recommendations page. On pages “such as your Home and Watch Next pages”, open **More** beside a post and choose “Don't recommend channel or Don't recommend posts from channel” (*YouTube Help: Manage your recommendations & search results*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/6342839?hl=en). That feedback can be cleared again in My Activity. The page describes the control for Home and Watch Next; it does not describe one for the Subscriptions feed.

To find a post you opened earlier, a computer has a record of them: **History**, then **Posts** on the right. YouTube adds that “A history of posts you've opened is only kept for 30 days” (*YouTube Help: Create a post*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7124474?hl=en).
