Where is the Trending tab on YouTube?

It is gone. In July 2025 YouTube said it would be “removing the Trending page and Trending Now list” and sending people to category charts instead (TeamYouTube, YouTube Community: Changes to Discovering Trending Content on YouTube, posted 10 July 2025, read 8 October 2026). Neither that post nor YouTube's help pages describe a way to bring the old single list back. What replaced it is narrower, and it is not personalised.
What YouTube said when it took it away
The announcement, signed by TeamYouTube, gave the reason in two sentences. Trends now come from many places: “Viewers increasingly learn about trends in different places across YouTube – from recommendations and search suggestions to Shorts, comments and Communities.” And the page had lost its audience: “we've seen visits to the Trending page decrease significantly, especially over the last five years” (TeamYouTube, YouTube Community: Changes to Discovering Trending Content on YouTube, posted 10 July 2025, read 8 October 2026).
In its place, the post pointed to charts for Trending Music Videos, Weekly Top Podcast Shows and Trending Movie Trailers, with more categories promised “over time”. Gaming kept its own home: “the Gaming Explore page will still be your go-to for the Trending gaming videos.” The post said the change was “taking effect in the next couple of weeks” and gave no exact date.
What the charts are now
YouTube's help page on the subject is titled Trending Charts on YouTube, and it describes the charts without mentioning that a Trending page ever existed (YouTube Help: Trending Charts on YouTube, read 8 October 2026). The facts it gives:
- Not personalised. “Trending Charts aren't personalized and display the same trending videos to all viewers in the same country,” which is why a chart can show videos in another language.
- Refreshed often. Charts “are updated roughly every 30 minutes.”
- Not a view-count ranking. The signals include view count, how fast views are growing, where views come from “including outside of YouTube”, the topic, the video's age, and how it compares with the channel's recent uploads. So “the video with the highest view count on a given day may not be #1”.
- Not for sale. “YouTube doesn't accept payment for placement on trending charts and doesn't favor specific creators.”
- Public videos only, and Restricted Mode can hide some.
Where to look for what is popular
- The Explore menu. YouTube lists its destination pages as Gaming, News, Music, Movies, Courses or Learning, Sports, Podcasts and Shopping, and adds that the “categories displayed will vary by location and the device used” (YouTube Help: Explore YouTube, read 8 October 2026).
- Charts, at charts.youtube.com, for the music, podcast and trailer lists.
- Gaming, through the Gaming Explore page the announcement names.
For browsing that is not tailored to you, the announcement lists three places: “the Explore menu, on creator channels, and in their subscriptions feed.” The last of those shows “recently uploaded videos from your subscriptions” (YouTube Help: Subscribe to YouTube channels, read 8 October 2026); if it looks thin, this checklist covers the documented reasons.
