# What happened to the Channels tab on YouTube? — SubSense

**YouTube turned it into a section of a channel's Home tab in November 2023.** Its Creator Liaison wrote on the official blog that “Channels is going away as a tab but sticking around as a section on the Home tab, so customize and deploy there as/when needed” (*YouTube Official Blog: Rene's Top Five on YouTube: November 9, 2023 Edition*, read 8 October 2026 — https://blog.youtube/creator-and-artist-stories/renes-top-five-on-youtube-november-9-2023-edition/). So the list of channels a creator recommends did not disappear; it moved, and whether you see it now depends on the creator.

## What changed on channel pages

The same post explains the reason as clutter. After YouTube split the old Videos tab into Videos, Shorts, Live and Podcasts, channel pages were “getting just more than a little cramped”. Two tabs went in the clean-up: Channels became a Home section, and “The info that was in the stand-alone About tab is being integrated into the heading on pretty much every other tab.” The About details are now behind the channel's heading.

YouTube's current viewer guide to channel pages matches that. It says the tabs “vary by channel and the types of videos the channel produces” and lists Videos, Shorts and Live as examples; Channels is not among them (*YouTube Help: Find your way around YouTube channel pages*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/11997749?hl=en).

## Where featured channels show now

On the creator's side, the Home tab is built from sections. YouTube's layout help lets a channel add “up to 12 custom sections”, and one of the types is “Channels: Choose to highlight subscriptions and featured channels” (*YouTube Help: Customize your YouTube channel layout*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/2976322?hl=en). The same page lists the four sections a new layout starts with: “Short videos, Uploads, Created playlists, and Subscriptions you've made public.”

So when a channel shows no channels at all, *our reading* of that page is that one of these is true:

- The creator has not added a Channels section, or removed it.
- Their own subscriptions are private, so the default section has nothing to show. [The privacy page](https://www.subsenseapp.com/answers/make-youtube-subscriptions-private/) covers the switch.
- The Home tab itself is off. The layout page describes a toggle that turns the whole Home tab on or off in YouTube Studio.

## If you meant your own list of channels

A different “channels” screen confuses people too: the list of everyone you follow. That one still exists. In the app, open the **Subscriptions** tab and tap **All** to reach “a list of your channels”, which can be filtered from the drop-down at the top (*YouTube Help: Subscribe to YouTube channels*, read 8 October 2026 — https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/4489286?hl=en&co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid). The computer route and the rest are on [our page about seeing every subscription](https://www.subsenseapp.com/answers/see-all-youtube-subscriptions/).
